FAQ's
Who can join the team?
Anyone with any skill level--from beginner to experienced. We will have a boys 5th/6th grade team, a boys 7th/8th grade team and a High School team for the 2011-2012 season. If you are interested in joining any of the teams, please fill out the contact information page.
If my son has never played, can he try before joining?
Several opportunities will be offered for your child to come out and try it; hold a stick, scoop the ball; learn the fundamentals of the game.
What costs are involved?
Full year costs will be $895 for the 2011-2012 season.
What equipment do I need?
Players are responsible for their own equipment. You can expect to pay about $250 - $300 for it, but they use it for several years if they don’t outgrow it. The pads and cleats get replaced, but the helmet grows with the player and the stick they use until they decide they want a new one. Equipment can be purchased at Academy (they have some, very small selection), Team Lax in Frisco (huge selection) or Play It Again Sports has some. For cleats, if there’s not a designated cleat for Lacrosse at Academy, you can buy football cleats.
Players need a helmet, cleats, pads (chest and elbow), rib pads, gloves, cup, stick and mouth piece.
If you’re buying a helmet for the first time, we request black w/ red visor and chin strap at Team Lax. You can buy your helmet elsewhere, but you’ll need the red visor and red chin strap. If you already have a helmet, please do not buy a new one. We would like all players to have the red chin strap and visor, which can be purchased inexpensively at Team Lax.
What registration is required?
*You must register with US Lacrosse in order to be eligible to play. The fee is $25 for a one year membership - www.uslacrosse.org. If you’re already registered, you do not have to reregister until your year is expired. (ex: if you currently play for another team). All you need to do is change your team to Leopard Lacrosse.
*You must also register with NTYLL (North Texas Youth Lacrosse League.) It is free - www.uslacrossentx.org. *If you do not live in Lovejoy ISD’s district or Lucas/Fairview, you must obtain a waiver through NTYLL to play for us.
